CAT Project

CAT Project in KAP Viswanathan High School
On August 7, 2024, we officially launched the Children Against Tobacco (CAT) program at K.A.P. Vishwanathan School, Trichy. This incredible initiative, in collaboration with Dr. GVN Cancer Institute and Mary Anne Charity Trust (MACT), will run from 2024 to 2025, focusing on educating students aged 10 to 18 about the dangers of tobacco. 🚭

We had the honor of hosting Mr. Kodi Lingam, ADSP officer, as our Chief Guest, along with inspiring speakers like Dr. V.J. Senthil from GVN Riverside Hospital, Dr. Arun Seshachalam from Dr. GVN Cancer Institute, and Mr. Cyril Alexander from MACT. Their powerful messages highlighted the importance of early intervention and education in keeping our youth tobacco-free.

The CAT program is supported by amazing leaders, including Niraimathi from The Evidentia Research Solutions, Dr. V.J. Senthil, Ms. Soundarya, and of course, myself as the CAT leader and spokesperson! Together, we’re on a mission to create a tobacco-free future for the youth of Trichy.

Huge thanks to everyone involved in making this launch a success. Let’s continue to spread awareness, inspire action, and lead the way towards a healthier tomorrow! 💪

Adaptation Required for Neurodivergent Students in School
The Holistic framework provides comprehensive support services essential for creating an ASD-friendly environment across various domains. In the academic sphere, it suggests implementing ASD-friendly learning modules with flexible attendance options and extended test times, alongside transition programs facilitating early registration and faculty introduction. Trained faculty and staff to understand the needs of neurodivergent students are vital for inclusive education. The environmental aspect involves universally designed infrastructure, including autism-friendly spaces and smaller classrooms. Social and mental health support includes peer-led groups, mental health counselling, and awareness programs for families and peers. Considerations in healthcare, technology, and finance increasingly prioritize research conducted by individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) rather than solely focusing on research about individuals with ASD, accessible diagnostic services, and financial aid such as scholarships and free diagnostic services and treatment for students with ASD.

World Autism Day

World Autism Day
Moving from Surviving to Thriving
Approximately 1 in 36 children below eight years are considered neurodivergent and diagnosed with Autism. Neurodivergent children aspire to attend mainstream schools and colleges, mirroring the desires of neurotypical peers who are typically deemed ‘normal’ by societal standards. However, they face numerous challenges within the current school system, making it significantly more difficult for neurodivergent students than for neurotypical students.
The figure shows the constitution of the school environment with neurodivergent and neurotypical school children. Most neurotypical students, who were considered normal by society are at the top of the curve. As we move away from the peak, the more neurodivergent the student becomes with an increasing need for accommodations.

Around 400 children took part in the celebration and exhibited their skills in dance, music, and silambam. The Vergal Children Movement Newsletter released the 51st edition and distributed it to the children and all the guests who came for the celebration. MACT gave saplings to the children as a token of love.

Health Camp

Health camp; Happy to serve as a volunteer and event photographer for the free health camp conducted by MACT foundation on October 15 in Nammanpatti government school, a village in Viralimalai. Our team was enriched by a traditional welcome, as students showcased their cultural prowess through the ancient art of silambattam.
The camp focused on encouraging women above 40 to undergo free mammograms. Apart from pap smear and other medical examinations, the expertise of the healthcare professionals ensured that individuals with concerning findings were rightfully directed by the team. The dissemination of informative pamphlets proved instrumental in fostering a better understanding of cancer prevention and early detection. Beyond the immediate attendees, this outreach extended to local village students instilling in them a profound awareness of the necessity and significance of this camp. A Special thanks to Mr. Cyril Alxendar for playing a key role in getting the community involved. His efforts really helped make the initiative more successful, reaching more people and making a bigger impact.
By creating awareness and providing crucial screening, the initiative not only addressed immediate health concerns but laid the foundation for a healthier more informed community.
